My debut album Soul Train is a mix of rock, blues, pop, and acoustic genres. Some tracks are quite dense but not overdone and others are spacy ballads. I used the theme of steam trains as I live in the Steam Train capital of Australia – Thirlmere after moving up from the Snowy Mountains.

I am passionate about creating different musical and instrumental combinations of various genres. The quality of the album and the people who produced has been an encouragement to keep on persisting in the face of many reasons to quit. I aim to write lyrics to connect with the listener in a way that they can say this guy has got something worth saying but in a way that is not in your face. They are born out of my musings and experiences of life that centre on relationships that are not unique to the artist experience.

My day job is teaching (pays the bills and the excesses). But all my spare time (not forgetting the Mrs too much) is writing new songs.

One of the challenges of this project has been to express more of the emotional and relational side of our Creator towards the individual and to humanity in general. Much of it is an appeal or a wake up call to reconsider one’s place in the universe and to see life from an eternal perspective. The texts that I have tended to base my lyrics on are the wisdom literature: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Prophets of old such as Isaiah.
